When I got pregnant, I realized my body would grow, particularly my stomach. I remember the first few weeks of pregnancy, looking in the mirror and convincing myself I saw my tummy transforming before my very eyes. Looking back, it’s almost stilly to compare my 3 month bump to my 8 month boulder, but at the same time, it’s almost miraculous just how much the body changes.
(me at 12 weeks)
While I realize the most obvious change in a woman’s body while growing a baby is an expanding mid-section, I also found out (quickly) that many other aspects of the body change as well. My hips widened, my muscles got soft, and my behind got bigger – all major fears I had pre-pregnancy. I did learn to embrace most of my transformations but I also wanted to make sure I kept these parts of my body looking as healthy as I could, knowing I would someday regain my figure (or as close to my figure as my body will allow post-baby).
(me at 28 weeks)
There are several products out there to use for a stretching stomach and when I first started to notice some major growth, I purchased a brand name lotion and used it religiously day and night. I knew I couldn’t avoid a big belly, but I could try my best to avoid the unflattering stretch marks that sometimes accompany it. While the lotion did the trick at keeping the stretch marks hidden, I couldn’t help but notice that the ingredient list on the back of the bottle was overwhelming with things I had never heard of. I normally wouldn’t put such a laundry list of unknown things into my body, so could I really be comfortable putting them on my body?
A few weeks ago, I was selected to be a part of the Earthmama 30 Day Challenge as an ambassador to test out several of their products from their pregnancy line. I wrote about my first two experiences here and here, but with my third and final post, I am going to talk about my two very favorite products from the Earthmama pregnancy line.
Speaking of my above experience with stretch lotions, I found the Earth Mama Natural Stretch Oil to be my best solution. It’s a rich and absorbs nicely into the skin. I use this daily all over, particularly focusing on my stomach, breasts and hips. The oil contains zero toxins and no artificial preservatives, fragrance or color, which is great for people with a sensitive nose like me. I cannot imagine going a day without a layer of this stuff!
Lets get real for a second; pregnancy is not as romantic as people make it out to be. Sure it’s a beautiful thing, but what’s not so beautiful are painful hemorrhoids, swelling and itching that can result. Things can get pretty ugly down there! The Bottom Balm is a LIFE SAVER! It’s infused with organic herbs that leave a cool and soothing sensation all over your lady parts. I have a feeling I’ll be buying a lot more of this stuff post-partum as well.
For the past 30 days, I have had the luxury of using these products and feel more confident knowing that I am covering my body with natural and safe products. As I get ready to welcome my little one into this world, I know I can only do so much to protect him, but a good start will be what products I choose to use on his body and mine as well. Choosing safe, toxin-free ingredients is going to be less of a luxury and more of a standard.
A huge thank you to Earth Mama Angel Baby Organics for allowing me to sample, test, and talk about your wonderful products. I was selected as an ambassador for this challenge and have received the products and compensation for my work. All opinions expressed are my own.
